Daughters ……

January 9, 2009

Why must we discriminate against daughters? Why kill them before they are even born? Why?Why when she is present in folk lores, in traditions,in beliefs ,in our lives in so many forms? As goddesses and devis,Kali,Durga? Prime ministers,Police officers,Sportswomen,Lawyers,Doctors, and most of all the soul of our world, our conscience at times, the ones who are care givers, the ones who have never waged a war…fought battles or killed in the name of half baked beliefs?Because the thought of her children always comes first.

Why is it it that we as a nation, can applaud woman power but refuse to let her be born in our homes?A daughter …that’s her very first role ……and we don’t even let her live it….

I came across this poem while going through ‘Unchaahi‘.I don’t have words. The poem says it all.It was actually the poem that I wanted to share …. which turned into a very short post…

(a poem)
By Ketan Pandit

This one’s another poem…

(though I don’t agree with the part that says sons make one cry…..)This poem can be found here…
